Strike force targets Eagle Ford traffic

Increased traffic on area roadways because of the oil and natural gas exploration of the Eagle Ford shale has spurred numerous complaints to area law-enforcement agencies. As a result, 20 troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are set to converge on Wilson and Karnes counties June 13-15.

DPS Sgt. Ryan Christian said the strike force will include 10 highway patrol troopers and 10 commercial vehicle enforcement troopers who will be cracking down on traffic violations of all types. In addition to tractor-trailers and other heavy trucks, Christian said troopers will be targeting passenger cars and trucks.

The strike force, he said, will not be limited to this week, as they are being planned once a month, indefinitely. Local law-enforcement agencies, including the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office and police departments from Floresville and La Vernia, have pledged their support to the operation, Christian said.

Don't like to be a nit-picker but I think the paper left out the part where Sgt. Christian said the strike force would be working every day or did I just overlook it?

Marcelina, just because they are not out on 181 where everyone can see them does not mean they are not out in the county stopping the trucks. IF you know this county you know there is 123, 537, 539, 536, 97, 87 and other state ... More ›

So was Sgt. Christian wrong in his comment in the article? The strike force is working every day. You are sure about that.

I've seen two stops today but they were not big trucks. Drive safely, everyone.

Counted 4 DPS commercial vehicle units in Floresville Wednesday on my way to SA. Three had eighteen wheelers pulled over. We need not advertise the dates the strike force will be working do you think? I believe most of the truck ... More ›

A question. Is speeding or enforcement of other traffic violations limited to DPS. Didn't think so. Someone needs to tell the locals. Laws of physics tell me that heavy trucks are much harder to stop than cars or light trucks. ... More ›
