1930-2012

Dan Bartlett Conoly Jr., 81, of Floresville, Texas, died suddenly Wednesday, June 6, 2012. A true “larger than life” character, he was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Corpus Christi, the son of Dan Bartlett and Margaret Munro Conoly.

Graduating from Beeville High School and Virginia Military Institute in 1953, Dan received his pharmacy degree from the University of Texas. An owner of Conoly Drugs, Dan had stores located throughout the state of Texas. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a devout member of the United Methodist Church in Floresville.

Dan was an exceptional outdoorsman. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, having earned the Grand Slam of North American Sheep. With a booming voice and a raucous laugh, he was a talented storyteller. A great husband, father, and best friend, Dan will be deeply missed, said his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack M. Conoly; his son, Patrick Conoly; and his grandson, Augustus Cummings Koontz.

Dan is survived by his wife, Debra Conoly of Floresville; his sons, Bart Conoly Koontz and wife Dore of San Antonio and Clay C. Conoly of Bandera; his daughters, Shell Koontz Somoza of San Antonio and Bitsy Neuser and husband Bob of Beeville; his stepson, David Hohertz; his stepdaughters, Judy Caddell and husband Derrick and Gina Short; eight grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

A funeral service was held Friday, June 8, at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church in Floresville, with Pastor Michael Mumme officiating. A reception followed in the Fellowship Hall.

Interment followed in the Mission Park South Cemetery in San Antonio.

Serving as pallbearers were Charlie Fuller, Alec Kibler, George Carroll, Ed Wicker, Jack Conoly, and David Conoly. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Millikin, Walle Conoly, Bill Conoly, Stan Conoly, and Derrick Caddell.

Memorial contributions may be made to AugustHeart, 755 E. Mulberry Ave., Ste. 101, San Antonio, TX 78212.
