Nixon-Smiley graduate Robbie Mejia signs his letter of intent to attend school and play basketball for the Victoria College Pirates. His parents, Robert and Rebecca, as well as Head Coach and Athletic Director Carlton McKinney and Superintendent Cathy Booth, joined him.

NIXON -- The Nixon-Smiley Mustang basketball team made a good run during the 2011-12 season. The Mustangs finished the year with an overall record of 26-6, and were bounced from the playoffs by Cole -- the eventual Region IV champs. One player who helped Nixon-Smiley to its best finish in years was Robbie Mejia, and now the recent graduate will make a move to Victoria, where he will play guard for the Pirates of Victoria College. . . .
