Matthew Winn, the son of Jeanette Winn Moczygemba and Brad Winn, is the 2012 Karnes City valedictorian. Matthew plans to attend Texas State University in San Marcos to major in political science and minor in communications. After college, he will attend law school in pursuit of becoming an attorney.

During high school, Matthew was an active member of the speech and debate teams all four years and went to state in CX debate his sophomore and senior years with his debate partner and best friend, Brady Braun. Matthew competed in persuasive speaking, advancing to regionals his sophomore and senior years; and current issues and events all four years, placing second in District his last three years of high school. This year, Matthew placed first at regionals in current events and competed at state.

Matthew was president of the National Honor Society and the Speech and Debate Club his senior year and was class vice president all four years. He was a member of Student Council his senior year and the FFA organization all four years.

If Matthew could give any advice to younger students, it would have to be that time management is essential to a much more successful and smooth high school experience. Learning to balance your social life, schoolwork, and possibly even a job as he did, is a strong component to success and happiness for any teenager. Overall just maintain a positive outlook on life and live every day with a purpose to do something extraordinary.
