Ashley Ellen Rawls, 18, is the daughter of Esther and John Rawls Jr. The class of 2012 valedictorian, Ashley plans to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio in the fall and major in neuroscience. She plans to gain an education and go into researching the deep ocean that is the brain. While attending college, Ashley hopes to become certified as a massage therapist to help further her education.

During the past years, Ashley has been an active member and held many high-ranking titles in several student organizations, such as head drum major for the Mighty Mustang Marching Band; vice president and reporter for the National Honor Society; All-Star Cast for two years in One-Act Play; president, vice president, and head of the blood drive for the Student Council; president of the Science Club; and Student Body president for 2010-11. She has also participated in UIL, the Spanish/Hispanic Club, and the Art Club. In addition to her club activities, she has participated in numerous volunteer service activities, such as highway trash pickup, tutoring, coats for kids, fund-raiser activities, trunk or treat, Christmas tree projects, library aide, and Vacation Bible School. For the past two years, Ashley has worked as the head lifeguard for the Nixon Public Pool. She is a very dedicated, self-motivated student and person with a drive to succeed in life.
