LENZ -- Officials from the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office have enlisted the help of officials from the Department of Homeland Security to aid in the identification of a man found dead here June 11. Lenz is an unincorporated area located west of Kenedy.

Sheriff David Jalufka said that at approximately 6 a.m. that day, a property owner called the sheriff’s office to report finding a pickup truck in his pasture. When deputies arrived, they discovered that the driver of the truck lost control after failing to negotiate a curve near the intersection of F.M. 2102 and F.M. 626, which caused the vehicle to crash.

Evidence, including blood, led deputies to believe that as many as 12-14 people were in the truck before it crashed. Several were ejected, including a Latin American male in his 30s-40s, who died at the scene. Jalufka said his body was laid near the rear of the truck before the others fled.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office at 830-780-3931.
