LA VERNIA -- Wilson County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 1 had an unassigned fund balance equal to 73 percent of general fund expenditures at the close of fiscal year 2011, according to an audit report presented at the district’s June 14 board meeting.
According to the report presented by Wayne Beyer of Pleasanton-based Beyer & Co., the district finished the year with an unassigned fund balance of $268,685. An unassigned fund balance can be spent at the governing body’s discretion.
While the audit deals with past performance, it also will help the ESD plan for the future. Such preparation is the reason these upcoming meeting dates -- subject to change -- were approved by the board:
•June 30, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., strategic planning session.
•July 12, budget presentation by the ESD’s service provider, the La Vernia Volunteer Fire Department, to take place during the regular board meeting that evening.
•Aug. 9, budget workshop, to take place during the regular board meeting that evening.
•Sept. 13, tax rate hearing, to take place during the regular board meeting that evening.
ESD board meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month, in the community room of the GVEC building at 13849 U.S. 87 in La Vernia.
