Build a road and business will come

STOCKDALE -- While Stockdale officials await the actual funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development for infrastructure within the city’s industrial park, paperwork should be signed soon for the first business to be located on the new road to be paid for with the loan.
According to Stockdale Economic Development Corp. (SEDC) President Frank Bain Jr. after the June 12 SEDC meeting, local attorney Trent Rowell represented a client at the meeting who is interested in a 3-acre tract in the park. Bain said the SEDC signed the necessary documentation for the possible sale/transaction of this acreage. The identity of the business name remained confidential, however.
Bain also reported the SEDC’s share of the city’s sales and use tax has increased by 35 to 45 percent in one month. As reported in the June 6 Wilson County News, the increase is partially due to activity related to the Eagle Ford shale exploration in South Texas.
Also during the meeting, the board considered three candidates to replace Brent Akin, who resigned from the board due to a conflict with his work schedule. Akin was appointed Nov. 1 for a two-year term, to expire December 2013.
The Stockdale City Council will name Akin’s replacement during its next meeting.
