Officers recover stolen property
These are some of the stolen items police found June 16 in a vehicle that was abandoned in Floresville by a fleeing suspect.
FLORESVILLE -- Gary Lane Lanford, 34, of Floresville is being held in the Atascosa County Jail, after officers from the Floresville Police Department and sheriff’s deputies from Atascosa and Wilson counties recovered a stolen tractor here June 4.
Detective George Ortiz of the Floresville Police Department said the John Deere tractor with front loader was reported stolen following a burglary that occurred south of Jourdanton. Officials later received information that helped them locate the tractor in the El Rancho Grande Industrial Park on F.M. 537 southeast of Floresville.
Officers throughout South Central Texas continue to grapple with property crimes, such as burglaries and thefts. In Floresville during the early morning hours of June 6, Patrolman Billy Herrera and Sgt. Devin Keen of the Floresville Police Department were searching for a suspect following a disturbance when they discovered the suspect’s abandoned vehicle. Inside were items, such as lawn equipment and electronics.
Ortiz said the officers contacted the vehicle’s registered owner and obtained consent to search. Also found inside the vehicle were a Winchester shotgun and a .223 caliber rifle. Police have since returned these items to their rightful owner.
However, other items recovered from earlier, unrelated incidents -- such as a lawn mower, rototiller, and various hand tools -- remain at the Floresville Police Department, where they wait to be claimed by their owners. Anyone wishing to claim these items should call the department at 830-393-4055.
Another property crime continuing to plague Floresville is graffiti vandalism. Ortiz said police continue to seek the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible for a Memorial Day weekend vandalism spree on the southwest side of town. Vandals spray-painted structures at The Beer Warehouse at the corner of C and South Second streets, the Floresville Railroad Depot at the corner of South Second and Trail streets, and two police cars parked in the Floresville city yard at First and A streets.
Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to provide an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of Wilson County at 830-393-INFO (4636) or at www.wilsoncountycrimestoppers.com. Tips leading to an arrest are eligible for cash rewards.
