The Sara Michelle Strey Memorial Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce that 39 area 2012 seniors will be awarded $45,000. Over the past three years, the foundation has been fortunate to award nearly $140,000 in scholarships.

Students awarded the scholarships include:

•$5,000 scholarships: Julia Johnson of East Central and Kristen Dennehy of La Vernia.

•$2000 scholarships: Kyle Hudek and Brooke Kosub of East Central, and Amber Duelm and Teresa Shoemake of La Vernia.

•$1000 scholarships: Kaitlyn Foster, Blane Powers, Benjamin Rodriguez, Mark Schmidt, Blayne Sells, James Simon, and Alexandria Trevino, all of East Central; Aaron Grubb, Andrea Johnson, Jordan Kotzur, Abigail Nixon, Adam Poore, Arthur Ramon Jr., Yesenia Robles, Seth Schoenert, Katy Sells, and Rachel Walker, all of La Vernia; Jacob Lampman of Marion, Mark Elmer of Pleasanton, Dylan Crutcher of Smithson Valley, and Drew Dylla of Poth.

•$500 scholarships: Katie Blocker, Megan Dugie, Amber Kerns, Dean Koenning, and Latham Walleck, all of East Central; Charles Kappmeyer, Trevor Kosub, and Kayla Markgraf, all of La Vernia; Morgan Koenig of Poth, Whitney Repole of Smithson Valley, Cullom Simpson of Boerne Champion, and Kimberly Rennspies of Marion.

The Sara Strey Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Sara Strey, a junior at Texas Lutheran University and a graduate of East Central. The foundation holds an annual fund-raiser whose proceeds fund the scholarships.
