Leonard A. Jendrusch, 80, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, joined his Lord Jesus Christ Wednesday, June 6, 2012, in his home in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Cestohowa on July 28, 1931, the son of Sylvester and Helen Dzuik Jendrusch.

He served three years in the U.S. Army and soon afterward began his career with Pioneer Flour Mills, where he worked for the next 43 years. Following his retirement from Pioneer, Leonard devoted his time to raising cattle at the family farm near Dewees, gardening, and enjoying his growing family. Leonard passed on his love for gardening to his children, who continue this legacy.

Leonard and his wife, Virginia Lyssy Jendrusch, were married for 58 years. The couple shared a love of dancing and enjoyed many good times in the communities of Cestohowa and Kosciusko. Not long after they were married, the couple moved to San Antonio but always maintained their friendships and connections with the South Texas country they grew up in. Leonard was always known by his friends and family as the perfect gentleman, devoted in his love and support for Virginia, his family said.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edward Jendrusch; and his sister, Theresa Pawlik.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Lyssy Jendrusch; his son, Alan Jendrusch and wife Monica; his daughters, Diane Miller and husband Steve, Laurie Clark and husband Rodney, and Ann Christenson and husband Joe; his grandchildren, Ryan Clark and wife Alicia, Bradey Clark, Jason Clark, Cliff Miller, Katie Miller, Lauren Christenson, Cody Christenson, Chase Christenson, Taylor Jendrusch, Nicole Jendrusch, and Lindsey Jendrusch; his brother, Johnny Jendrusch; and his sisters, Regina Winters, Irene Lyssy, and Barbara Reaume.

A rosary was recited Friday, June 8, at 7 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in San Antonio, the church where Leonard was very active.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church with Monsignors Douglas Fater, Michael O’Gorman, and Lawrence Stuebben officiating.

Entombment followed in the Holy Cross Mausoleum in San Antnonio.

Leonard’s seven grandsons served as pallbearers, while his four granddaughters presented the gifts during the Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Century Hospice of San Antonio, 8207 Callaghan Road, San Antonio, TX 78230.
