Applications are being sought for local park grants

AUSTIN -- Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is announcing a special call for local park grant applications under the Outdoor Recreation and Urban Outdoor Recreation grant programs before Aug. 1.

With the passage of the omnibus spending bill in December by the U.S. Congress, Texas has received $2,302,679 for its federal apportionment through the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Roughly half this amount -- $1,151,339 -- is available for grant review prior to Aug. 1. Of this amount, 40 percent is set aside for Urban Outdoor Recreation grants and 60 percent is set aside for Outdoor Recreation grants. Applications must be postmarked no later than Aug. 1.

For more information regarding this special call, go to www.tpwd.state.tx.us/business/grants .

Due to limited funds and eligibility requirements, applications for all other Local Park Grant programs are not being accepted at this time. These include the Small Community, Indoor Recreation, Urban Indoor Recreation and Regional grant programs.

For questions regarding the application process, please contact Dana Lagarde sy 512-389-8175 ot dana.lagarde@tpwd.state.tx.us.

I'm confused. Does the mayor want a sports complex or to repair existing sports fields? There is a big difference and he has not been clear.

Joslin doesn't ever give an update on the amount of funds possibly available for our city from USDA's grant program for city infrastructure. Guess he doesn't want to make that news public yet.

Kind of. It's like Paris Hilton's; a blank check from her daddy. Little m thinks he has a blank check from the taxpayers' pocketbooks. Know why they call a sales tax a TAX? Probably because it's a tax.
