We are excited about the progress here with our city streets and water systems.

We are in the middle of reconstruction of the Richland Heritage subdivision and St. Mary’s Street. Due to lower cost and increases in our sales tax revenue, we are going to be able to add paving Mesquite Street and reconstructing Live Oak Street to our project. This should all be completed in the next few weeks. We are so pleased with the enhancement of our original project to include these streets.

Also, I want to give an update on the future Voges subdivision project. Our city engineer is working hard to complete the planning of this project. I thank all the citizens who were able to come out and provide their input. This will greatly help Mr. Bayer in his preparation for this project. We are hoping to start as early as this fall.

I would also like to make mention of the water temperature this summer. Every summer for as long as I can remember, we have had an issue with the temperature of the water coming out of your faucet. First, a little background: We have three active wells that support the city. The wells are about 2,000 feet deep and the water temperature coming out of the ground is about 120 degrees.

The cooling towers and storage tanks we currently have do a great job most of the year. But during the summertime, as people are watering their grass, we use the water as fast as it comes out of the ground; in doing so, we do not have the retention time needed to cool the water to a more comfortable temperature.

We are planning and saving for new holding tanks, cooling towers, and a water well. We hope to have some of these projects ready by next summer. The cost for everything is well over $1 million. In the immediate future, we have two options: Live with the way it is now, or we can enforce water restrictions to slow down the usage. Please email me at mayor@cityofpoth.org with your choice of option.

I am also happy to announce that Poth Independent School District and the city have come to an agreement to purchase fuel together in bulk. This will help reduce the cost of fuel for both groups. The school has been a wonderful partner in helping save the taxpayers money.

Don’t forget about summer movies series! Films are:

•Friday, June 29 -- “Captain America”

•Friday, July 13 -- “The Wizard of Oz”

•Friday, July 27 -- “The Vow”

•Friday, Aug. 10 -- “Cowboy and Aliens”

All movies start shortly after dark. Feel free to bring yours blankets or lawn chairs. You are also invited to bring your own snacks and beverages.

I would also like to welcome Action! Cheer Dance and Fitness. They have remodeled the Triple E Gym in Poth and are going to be a great addition to the town. Please visit their website for more information, www.actioncheerdancefitness.com.

We are so proud of the growth of our local small businesses. Always remember, please shop locally.

Travis Pruski is the mayor of Poth.

I heard you don't even need a hot water heater in Poth. I think that would be a great selling point. Just tell people how much they can save on their utility bill ...

If Poth's so bad, why do you stay? Go to Floresville where you belong, since you're racist and angry.
