Poth Page: Poth school board seeks new member

Yes, Poth Independent School District (ISD) just installed three new board members in May; however, an opportunity taking place has led to a board member resigning. In today’s paper, we have placed an advertisement to explain the qualifications for being a board member. The procedure on how the board will select the new member has changed slightly, as well.
As superintendent, I recommend that the board let the community know there is an opening. The board is asking interested individuals to submit a written letter to Mr. Wes West, indicating their desire to be considered. All of the written letters will be collected in my office and given to the entire board at a special called meeting on Tuesday, July 10, at 6 p.m. That night, the board will review the letters and make a selection. It is my intent that by announcing the vacancy in the paper and on our website, a large number of Poth citizens will be aware of what is taking place.
If anyone has a question about being a board member, they can contact me or another board member.
In other news, Poth coaches have been busy with summer camps. Hundreds of students have been at the school over the last two weeks with basketball camp, cheer camp, baseball, or softball camp. Football camp and volleyball camp are right around the corner. Check our website for more details or come by the central office.
Poth ISD is keeping busy with the remodeling of four classrooms for special needs children and their support.
Last week, we received our new gas and diesel storage tanks. The school district and the city have partnered together to save money on fuel for school busses, police cars, and support vehicles. This is a rare partnership that benefits both government entities. I’m excited to see it all come together this summer. The district and the city are also working on a recycling project that will be available in the very near future.
The school offices will be closed during the week of July 2-6. This is being done to save energy. All buildings will have limited use during the holiday week. On July 9, we will return to holiday hours of 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with no offices open on Fridays.
Best wishes for a Happy Fourth of July and my prayers for everyone to have a safe and healthy summer.
Andy Peters is superintendent of the Poth ISD.
