Central Disposal Service, LLC in the dumps over consumer complaints

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about Central Disposal Service, LLC, a garbage removal company in Dripping Springs, after receiving dozens of complaints about the company’s service.
According to BBB files, many consumers allege Central Disposal Service, LLC did not pick up their garbage as promised, sometimes missing collection for weeks at a time. When they cancelled their service, a few consumers said the company continued to bill them and did not provide refunds in a timely manner.
Jason Bagley said he first contracted with Central Disposal Service, LLC because he wanted to do business with a local company. He and his wife were also impressed that the company offered recycling services.
“We had a great experience for a while; then it went downhill,” he said. “They started missing trash service. They would completely miss trash service for a week and not say anything.”
In addition to skipping scheduled pickup dates, Bagley said he noticed something off about the recycling service as well. He said the Central Disposal Service, LLC employees would empty the recycling containers into the exact same bin as the rest of the garbage.
He asked the company to refund the additional $5 a month he had been charged for recycling. He said his next bill still showed the charge.
That month, he and his wife had a baby and in the confusion, ended up paying the bill twice -- an overpayment of approximately $69. He then decided to cancel service due to the ongoing issues with pickup.
He asked for a refund of approximately $69 for the overpayment and an additional $30 for several months of recycling charges.
“He (the company representative) said, ‘I understand; I’m going to get a check to you,’” Bagley said. “I have not heard from him since.”
That conversation took place in February. On June 19, he added that he finally received a check from the company.
BBB contacted Central Disposal Service, LLC by mail and e-mail about the pattern of complaints in April, but has not yet received a response. The company has also not responded to BBB about any of the complaints filed against it.
The company’s phone number is unreliable. At different times, the number has been disconnected, gone to voicemail or rang through without any answer.
Bagley said he was especially disappointed that a local company would treat its customers so poorly.
“I think the most frustrating thing is that I wanted to do business with a local business,” he said. “To have that come back and bite me, it’s really frustrating.”
When hiring a garbage removal company, BBB offers the following advice:
· Start with trust. Check out the company’s BBB Business Review to see its BBB rating, complaint history and other important information.
· Check references. Ask each company to provide local references and find out if those customers were satisfied with the service.
· Review your contract thoroughly. Make sure it includes all the agreed upon services, frequency of pickup and, if required, prices for company-provided garbage bins. Verify where you should leave your garbage and by what time, and if there are limits on the types of items the company will collect. Some companies also limit customers by volume, and charge for overage.
