Stockdale trustees adopt budget, hire two coaches
STOCKDALE -- With a proposed budget set at $8.1 million, the Stockdale Independent School District (ISD) board of trustees has adopted its budget for the fiscal year 2012-13. This took place during a special meeting held June 28.
According to Paul Darilek, superintendent of the Stockdale ISD, the board unanimously adopted the budget with five of the seven trustees present. The adoption occurred after a public hearing was held, with no public comments made.
A breakdown of the estimated $8.1 million budget includes:
•General operating fund of $6,753,247
•The cafeteria fund listed at $400,500
•Debt service fund set at $757,520
•Federal funds of $209,959.
Increases were made in payroll, fuel, and utilities. Also, administrators and at-will staff will receive a 2 percent increase in pay.
According to a public notice posted in the June 27 Wilson County News, the state revenue per student decreased by $25. The total revenue per student last year was $6,105; for 2012-13, the district projects it to be $6,080.
The trustees based the budget on a proposed 2012-13 tax rate of $1.34 per $100 of assessed property value, or an increase of 8 cents per $100 of valuation. This rate was used only as a guide for adopting the budget, Darilek said. He added that the board will revisit the tax rate at the end of August.
In comparison to last year’s budget, maintenance and operations costs have decreased by 4.6 percent, while the debt service has increased by 34.3 percent.
The increase in the proposed rate of $1.34 per $100 of valuation is attributed to the $3.25 million bond issue voters approved in November 2010 for the construction of the ag science building and junior high/high school cafeteria.
Estimated total appraised value used for the budget increased by more than $11.4 million for the current year, while the district saw an increase of almost $3.2 million in the value of new property. The total taxable value of all property rose by almost $8.9 million.
In other business, after the board reconvened from executive session, the trustees hired two coaches -- a head girls basketball coach and an assistant girls coach.
