Stockdale’s sales-tax income up
STOCKDALE -- Income from sales-tax revenue is having an effect in cities across the 24 counties that comprise the Eagle Ford shale, and Stockdale is no exception.
Members of the Stockdale City Council met twice during the last week of June to discuss the city’s budget for 2012-13.
According to Stockdale City Manager Banks Akin after the June 25 workshop, the council was informed the city coffers will see an increase from sales tax collected and their 18-percent share of the earnings distribution from the Floresville Electric Light & Power System. The anticipated income from FELPS is $158,000, up from $154,000 last year.
While the water account is “healthy,” Akin does not anticipate a rate increase this year, but he does foresee an increase in the wastewater account. The account has been operating in a deficit.
A second area operating in deficit is the city’s natural gas account. Council members held a brief discussion of this during the first workshop of fiscal year 2012-13, Akin said.
The council did not discuss increasing the city’s ad valorem tax rate, but Akin did say an increase in the valuation of taxable property within the city limits has been noted.
The council also met for a June 28 public hearing to consider a rezoning request from residential single family use to commercial at 102 W. Free Timber. Owners of the property located adjacent to Lowe’s plan to operate a retail boutique there. No one addressed the council on this issue.
