LV Knights gain new members
Knights of Columbus Council 12208 Grand Knight Jeff Berger (left) welcomes new Brother Gary Kirby.
Knights of Columbus Council 12208 in La Vernia exceeded its membership quota for Fraternal Year 2011-12.
Each fraternal year, councils are given a quota for membership by Supreme Headquarters. Council 12208’s quota for 2011-12 was eight, and this was exceeded, as the council gained 12 new members.
The Knights of Columbus began on Oct. 2, 1881, when a group of men met in the basement of St. Mary’s Church on Hillhouse Avenue in New Haven, Conn. These men formed a fraternal society that would one day become the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization. They were Knights of Columbus.
