Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1915-2012

Virginia G. Cortez passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 97 years, 4 months, and 26 days. A resident of Floresville for the past five years, Virginia was a native of Seguin and formerly of Hereford. She was born Jan. 28, 1915, in Seguin, the daughter of Librado Gonzales and Guadalupe Zamaripa.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jose Cortez and Fermin Avila; her sons, Celestino and Julian Cortez; her parents; seven brothers; and three sisters.

Virginia is survived by her daughters, Lucia Hill of Hereford and Alberta Montoya of Floresville; her son, Frank Avila of Amarillo; 20 grandchildren; numerous great-, great-great-, and great-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Wednesday, June 27, at 5 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, with the Rev. Phil Henning as celebrant.

Interment followed in the Cañada Verde Cemetery in Wilson County.

Serving as pallbearers were Esteban Montoya, Fermin Montoya, Randy Garcia, Esteban Cortez, David Cortez, and Vincent Cortez.
