1937-2012

Newton Cuny Lerich of Adkins, Texas, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, following a fight with cancer, at the age of 75 years, 2 months, and 18 days. He was born in San Antonio on April 13, 1937, the son of Milton B. and Estella (Stella) Lerich.

Newton was a 1955 graduate of East Central High School, where he was involved in the FFA program, played football and basketball, and ran track. He was a longtime supporter of the school and its athletic teams. Newton also served as a substitute teacher following retirement. An avid hunter, Newton enjoyed being outdoors and reciting family hunting stories.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, William “Bill” Lerich and Milton “Mickey” Lerich.

Newton is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters Melodye Aldrich and husband Michael of Adkins and Sandy Ferry and husband Donnie of Celina; son Scott Lerich and wife JJ of Alamogordo, N.M.; grandchildren Austin, Cassidee, and Dalton Ferry of Celina; stepchildren Kenneth Brett and wife Rose and Barbara Aguirri and husband Jerald, all of San Antonio; grandchildren Andy, Shelby, Bryanna, and Gus Brett, and Dylan, Elizabeth, and Lily Aguirri; one great-grandson, Troy; sisters-in-law Doris Lerich of Comfort and Sherry Lerich of Wilson County; two nieces; four nephews and their families; and many beloved cousins and dear friends.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 3, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral service was held Thursday, July 5, at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Pastor Susan Royston officiating.

Interment followed in the Cover Cemetery in San Antonio.

Serving as pallbearers were Karl Lerich, Randy Lerich, Ted Lerich, Kenneth Brett, Jerald Aguirri, and Troy Adams.

Memorial donations may be made to the East Central School Foundation, 6634 New Sulphur Springs Road, San Antonio, TX 78263.
