ESD No. 2 changes meeting location
The board of commissioners for the Wilson County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 2 will be holding its Monday, July 16, meeting in the Floresville North Elementary School. The school is located on F.M. 775, between U.S. 181 and C.R. 128.
Board President Keith Wildes said following the board’s July 2 meeting that the ESD later confirmed the location for the July 16 meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. During the July 2 meeting, the board discussed a few possibilities. But no decision could be made, because they had yet to obtain permission from responsible parties at any of the venues. In addition to the school, other venues considered were a community building in the Wood Valley Acres residential subdivision, the commissioners courtroom in Wilson County Courthouse Annex No. 3, and a local church building.
The board currently meets at the Oak Hills Community Church at the corner of Eagle Creek Ranch Boulevard and U.S. 181, which no longer is able to host the meetings.
Also during the meeting, the board unanimously approved a budget transfer. This was after Treasurer Bill Kenney recommended that $14,000 be transferred from “unspecified potential capital expenditures” to legal fees, because of an unforeseen rise in the ESD’s legal expenses. Kenney said the board initially budgeted $2,000 per month. Without the transfer, it would have had just $2,860 left to cover legal fees for the remainder of the fiscal year.
In other business, the board met for nearly an hour in closed session to discuss “updated capital plans, estimates, and schedules for the purchase of capital assets” and appointing and authorizing a representative to negotiate the purchase of land off U.S. 181 that would serve as an ESD headquarters and a fire and emergency medical services station. When the board reconvened, it voted to create a standing committee to negotiate the property purchase. Board members Kenney and Bob Gadd will serve on the committee.
While the board did not mention the exact location of the property in question, earlier board discussions have indicated that the ESD’s business plan included a proposal to construct an operations center near the intersection of U.S. 181 and Abrego Lake Drive north of Floresville.
