Sending out big congratulations to all of our students that advanced and participated at the Texas UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest this year! Students involved were Brandon Padier (Piano Solo), Andrea Johnson (WW Trio), Rachel Walker (WW Trio), and Ben Stevenson (WW Trio, Oboe Solo, Piano Solo).

The State Solo & Ensemble contest is one of the most difficult individual contests these students will compete in at the high school level. I am very pleased to announce that every student representing La Vernia ISD received either a silver or a gold medal! The ratings are as follows:

Brandon Padier (Piano Solo) - 2nd division receiving a Silver Medal

Andrea Johnson, Rachel Walker, Ben Stevenson (Woodwind Trio) - 1st division receiving a Gold Medal

Ben Stevenson (Piano Solo) - 2nd division receiving a Silver Medal, and (Oboe Solo) - 1st division receiving a Gold Medal

Of those students I am also very happy to announce that Ben Stevenson was selected as an Outstanding Performer at the 2012 Texas State Solo & Ensemble Oboe Solo Contest.

Of the approximately 90,000 students participating in the regional UIL music contests and the 24,000 musicians who performed at TSSEC, only 252 students earned the distinguished honor of being recognized as an Outstanding Performer. This achievement is truly a mark of musical excellence. Rewards of this nature do not come easily and reflect the efforts of his parents, school, many teachers, and community! We would like to congratulate Ben for this recognition; his family for helping him achieve this honor, his many teachers for spending the time to help Ben achieve this dream, and finally the La Vernia community for their continued support of the performing arts at La Vernia ISD!

La Vernia Band Department would like to congratulate all bands advancing in the Area TMEA Honor Band process! Hats off to Fredericksburg High School who placed first in the central area.

In addition, The La Vernia Mighty Bear Band is proud to announce that two pieces advanced to state in the ATSSB OPS and our La Vernia High School Band advanced to state in the TMEA Honor Band process! It’s a great day to be a Bear!

Clark is the director of bands and director of performing arts for La Vernia ISD. ATSSB OPS is Association of Texas Small School Bands Outstanding Performance Series. TMEA -- Texas Music Educators Association.
