Friends have organized a benefit Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29, at the Floresville Event Center and roping arena. All proceeds will benefit the Boone family to help offset medical expenses for Atlee, born with VACTERL association. Events will include a roping contest, cook’s choice cook-off, live and silent auctions, children’s games and events, live entertainment, and a drawing. Roping will be presented by Jaime and Shannon Macias of Short Round Productions.

Donations of auction items, help with staging the benefit, and volunteers from helping serve to entertainment are warmly welcomed. To help, call Sharmon Roberson at 903-390-0181.

Entry for the cook-off is $250 per team. Trophies for first, second, and third places will be awarded, as well as cash prizes. Teams also are asked to donate an item to the live or silent auctions. Full details are available from the organizers.

Roping on Friday will begin at 7 p.m. with registration; roping begins at 8 p.m. On Saturday, roping events will include numbers 9, 11, and 13 slide. Books open at 9 a.m. and roping begins at 10 a.m.

The day’s events will also include mutton bustin’ at noon. Entertainment will feature a variety of South Texas’s best musicians, including “True Grit” and more.

In addition, an account has been set up for Atlee’s medical expenses. Donations can be mailed to Boone Baby Benefit, Wells Fargo Bank, 1112 B St., Floresville, TX 78114.
