Floresville-based certified public accountant Verna K. Gorzell has been tapped to serve as the interim county auditor, according to an order signed today by judges Stella Saxon of the 218th Judicial District and Donna Rayes of the 81st Judicial District.

According to the order, she will serve in this capacity from Aug. 1 to Jan. 31, and will be compensated at a rate of $6,000 per month.

Gorzell will replace long-time Auditor Ray Wolff, who retired effective today. More about Wolff’s retirement can be found in the Aug. 1 print edition of the Wilson County News. Both of these items are listed on the agenda for an Aug. 3 special meeting of the Wilson County Commission-ers Court.

The first rule of a good auditor is to be independent. Something that was definately not an attribute of our last auditor.
