Trustees approve bid for cool schools
LA VERNIA -- Changes will be in the works for the La Vernia Independent School District (ISD), after the board of trustees authorized the district superintendent, Dr. Tom Harvey, to execute a construction agreement for air-conditioning projects.
The proposed construction will provide air conditioning to crucial areas to the district’s main distribution frame (MDF) room.
“There are many computers and a lot of electrical equipment in that MDF room,” Harvey said. “There’s an expanded area at the high school which houses the servers for the district, and that is one area where we are in need of better air conditioning. That equipment in there generates a lot of heat and therefore must be adequately cooled.”
The board voted unanimously to approve the bid submitted by Stokes Construction and authorized Harvey to execute the construction agreement.
Also approved by the trustees during the meeting were:
•TASB Policy Update 94, dealing with food allergens
•The Student Code of Conduct for the coming academic year
•The Uniform Service Agreement
•The renewal of the district’s Xerox contract.
Also on the agenda was “consideration and possible action concerning pending litigation and possible settlement” of a legal case. Legal counsel was retained to address the matter.
