Gary Lee Hartman, 72, of Stockdale and Seguin, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Gary was born on Sept. 17, 1939, in Seguin to Fritz J. and Ida Winsauer Hartman.

He graduated from Seguin High School, class of 1957. After graduation, he attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He was a motorcycle police officer in San Antonio and worked under Leroy Schneider, chief of police in Seguin. He went on to become a cattle truck driver for Harrell Cattle Co. in Gonzales, an independent cattle broker, before starting his own business, Hartman Janitorial Supplies and Gun Shop. Ranching throughout this time, he entered into the insurance business with his wife at Hartman Insurance Agency. He semi-retired in 2000. He was active in Wilson County 4-H and was a life member of the San Antonio Livestock Expedition. He was a long-time member of the American Brahman Association, Texas Brahman Association, and South Texas Brahman Association. He was one of the founders of the Alamo Gun Collectors Association, an endowment lifetime member of NRA, and member of the Winchester Arms Collectors Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John Hartman, on July 22, 2012.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Diane Jackson Hartman; children Christopher Hartman and wife Jennifer, Codi Denice Warrick, and Chad Hartman and wife Elizabeth; grandchildren Dustin, Jakki, R.D., Taylor, Colton, Robynn, Misty, Tyner, and Ellea; brother Pat Hartman and wife Donna; sister-in-law Diana Jackson; nieces and nephews David Hartman, Thomas Hartman, Barbara Hartman, Glenn Jackson and wife Andrea, and Pamela Jackson Crowther and husband James; and numerous other loving family members and friends.

A visitation was held on Friday, July 27, from 12-7 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. in the Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Seguin with the Rev. Keith Wyatt and the Rev. Tom Jones officiating.

A reception followed in the Weinert House at 1207 N. Austin in Seguin.

A private interment will take place at a later date at his beloved ranch.

Pallbearers were Arnold Saunders, Jerry Simon, Gordon Withers, Glenn Jackson, Maurice Dixon, Tink Herzog, Marvin Quinney, and Joe Broussard. Honorary pallbearers were Boogie Vivroux, Alan Jonas, and Richard Mergele.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284-1125, or to the charity of one’s choice.
