WACO -- Seven local Texas Junior Livestock Association members will take the reins of the organization for the next year.

Fifty-four youth from across Texas were inducted as 2012-13 Junior Directors for the statewide organization in the species divisions of steer, heifer, goats, lambs, swine, and the newest division -- livestock judging -- of the Texas Junior Livestock Association, during the Belt Buckle Bonanza held the week of the Fourth of July in Waco.

The local area was well-represented on this board, with students from East Central, Marion, Seguin, and Madison high schools, and Heritage Middle School being chosen to lead the organization next year.

Heading up the steer division, comprised of 20 junior directors, is Kylie Patterson, a member of the East Central FFA. Kylie was also elected the 2012-13 Texas Junior Livestock Association princess.

Reagan Langemeier, a student at Marion High School, will lead 10 junior directors in the state swine division’s activities. Julissa Gamez, a student at Madison High School, is also a member in the swine division.

Rayanne Muenich will serve as the vice president and will assist in leading the state’s sheep division.

In the livestock judging division, Madison Langemeier of Marion High School will lead the newest group of the Texas Junior Livestock Association. Jordan Hevner, a student at East Central High School, and Kaitlyn Kempen, a student at Heritage Middle School, are also junior directors of this division.

Belt Buckle Bonanza

Throughout the week at the Belt Buckle Bonanza, members were recognized during the year-end banquets for the Top 10 in each of their respective breeds. Members placing in these divisions included: Jordan Hevner, Wyatt Blaylock, Kaitlyn Kempen, Kylie Patterson, Kannon Goodson, Tatum Garza, Brittany Thomason, Tanner Harcastle, Shaelynn Popham, Amy Stoermer, Daylan Brooks, Brooke Anders, Molly Smith, Leighton Robbins, Lanham Robbins, Jalynn Muenich, Rayanne Muenich, Isaia Gamez, Julissa Gamez, Reagan Langemeier, and Madison Langemeier,

During the day, more than 1,000 entries competed in one of the largest jackpot shows in the country, where members earned buckles, crystal trophies, and a variety of other awards.

Top winners in this year’s public speaking contest include Kylie Patterson in the intermediate division and Kaitlyn Kempen in the junior division. Reagan Langemeier took home third place in the livestock-judging event. Kylie Patterson won the multimedia contest.

The Texas Junior Livestock Association is a youth organization of FFA and 4-H members that focuses on raising and showing livestock. Students learn the basics of showmanship, livestock ownership, and the marketing of their projects. The Texas Junior Livestock Association began in 1979.
