Stockdale library End of Summer Party
Children proudly display certificates earned by participating in the “Dig Up a Book — Get a Clue at the Library!” summer reading program at the Stockdale Sarah Bain Chandler Public Library.
An End-of-Summer Party, sponsored by the Stockdale Sarah Bain Chandler Public Library board of directors, was held July 26 in honor of the summer readers and library and activities volunteers in the library. The theme for the six-week program was “Dig Up a Book -- Get a Clue at the Library!”
All children entered in the summer reading program were issued reading logs. Those up to 6 years old kept track of the number of books they read. Children ages 7 and up used the reading logs to keep track of the number of pages they read.
Presenting the certificates and awards was Kay Deagen.
Receiving awards for reading the most books in the “up to 6” category were Joshua Scribner, Miranda Mock, and Brylee Bush.
Awards for reading 25 or more books in the “7 to 9 years” category were presented to Jayden Soefje, Anelysa Cavazos, Avery Gastelum, Mason Soefje, Mia Marquez, Marissa Cook, and Maddie Marquez.
In the “ages 10 and over” group, reading 500 pages or more were Anatrina Cavazos, Jazmin Navarro, Ashley Scribner, Hope Gastelum, Makayla Marquez, Heaven Marquez, Riley Gastelum, Blakely Cavazos, Luke Scribner, and R. J. Marquez.
The activities volunteers present were Karrie Hebert, Kay Deagen, and Chuck Scribner.
The librarian volunteers present were Helen Deason, Patsy Marquez, Sharon West, and Billie Jo Wolff.
Daisy pens were presented to each volunteer.
Refreshments of cupcakes, trail mix, and punch were served by Patsy Marquez and Billie Jo Wolff to the 35 children and 12 adults in attendance.
Library hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon and 1-4:30 p.m.
Sharon West, Sarah Bain Chandler Public Library board secretary-treasurer, writing on behalf of the board of directors, would like to thank Nikki Stohr of the Sam Fore Jr. Wilson County Public Library and her staff for their assistance.
“We couldn’t have accomplished all we have without their input,” West said.
