LV welcomes ‘Baby Bears’
La Vernia would like to welcome its youngest “bears” into the La Vernia community.
Learning to read is one of the most important skills students acquire during their early school years. Children who come to school “ready to read” have usually been introduced to books and print far before they enter kindergarten. Children who have been read to at home and have access to many books and literacy experiences are better prepared to succeed in school.
Because we believe in the importance of parents and children reading together, we would like to welcome the babies born into our La Vernia community by sending them a special card and a book of their very own.
Because we are the Bears, we have chosen Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Bill Martin as our gift. This book has become a classic for its engaging format and colorful, predictable language. Children often cite the book as one of their favorites, and remember it long after they have graduated.
We are asking the community to help us to identify our newborns and their parents. When anyone hears of a baby born in our community, we ask that they let us know by sending the parents’ name and address (and the baby’s as well) to Kristen Beavers at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling her at 830-779-6600.
We want to welcome as many of our youngest bears as possible and give them a gift that will encourage a love of reading that they can take with them forever. We hope that parents will read with their children from the time they are born, as this time spent reading together is one of the most precious gifts they can give to their children.
