Maun makes melodious music
Jenny Maun of Floresville displays the trophies she earned in the American Accordionists Association Festival in July in Baltimore, Md.
FLORESVILLE -- Jennifer “Jenny” Maun, 33, continues to make beautiful music and win awards.
As a member of the Alamo “Angels Accordion Orchestra,” Jenny traveled in July to Baltimore, Md., to compete in the American Accordionists Association Festival, returning home with three awards of her own and one shared with the rest of the orchestra. The group, according to its literature, is “the only performing organization of its type in the world, featuring student musicians with disabilities and senior citizens who are their mentors.”
Jenny competed in standard solo, standard duet, and festival evaluation, as well as beginning orchestra with the Alamo Angels. She returned to Floresville with trophies for her evaluation, in which she scored 96 out of a possible 100 points; and two second-place trophies for her performances in standard solo and standard duet. She shares duet honors with her mentor, Gracie Bernardi of San Antonio.
The Floresville musician has competed several times in the festival.
“I like to perform for other people,” Jenny said.
Her favorite song to play on the accordion is “Amazing Grace,” which she has performed for audiences in the past.
She usually trains three days a week with Mary Kathryn Archuleta, who directs the Alamo Angels Accordion Orchestra.
Jenny is now taking a well-earned break from the accordion, said her mother, Becky Richardson. She will focus for a while on practicing her piano skills.
Jenny and her mother are grateful to a number of local churches, organizations, and individuals for their support of Jenny’s musical endeavors, especially their help in fund-raising for the accordion competition.
