World War II vets to visit military memorials in D.C.
SAN ANTONIO -- A group of area World War II veterans will visit military memorials in Washington, D.C., this weekend when Alamo Honor Flight conducts its second trip of 2012.
Those wishing to see the veterans off on Friday should go to the Southwest Airlines ticketing area in Terminal 1 of San Antonio International Airport at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
The 32 veterans from Bexar and surrounding counties will depart San Antonio International Airport at 11:30 a.m. Friday. On Saturday, the group will visit military-related memorials and take part in a wreath-laying ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery.
The veterans are scheduled to arrive back in San Antonio at 10:40 a.m. Sunday. Those who wish to welcome them back should be at the Terminal 1 baggage area at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Alamo Honor Flight, a 501(c)3 organization, pays for airfare, lodging, and meals for the veterans, who are accompanied by trained guardians who are responsible for handling virtually every detail of the trip and for providing assistance to the veterans during the trip.
Donations to Alamo Honor Flight are tax-deductible. Make checks payable to Alamo Honor Flight and mail to Alamo Honor Flight, 8807 Braun Valley, San Antonio, TX 78254. Credit card donations can be made at the website.
