SARA to celebrate 75 years Aug. 18
In honor of the San Antonio River Authority’s (SARA) 75th anniversary, Karnes County will host a reception Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Falls City Community Hall on U.S. 181 in Falls City.
They are looking to collect historical photos and written stories related to the San Antonio River Watershed. The donated items will become a permanent piece in its archives, which are housed at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in the Special Collections of the UTSA Libraries.
At the reception, SARA will accept written family memoirs or community history of a maximum of 1,000 words regarding any person, place, event, occasion, or activity connected to the San Antonio River or its tributaries.
Typewritten submissions are preferred, but hand-written submissions will be accepted. Additionally, if residents have photos related to the San Antonio River or its tributaries, SARA will have a scanner at the reception to create a digital copy of the photos. Individuals may donate the actual photo, if they wish.
SARA must obtain appropriate permission for each donated written story and photograph, including proper attribution for the written submissions and credit for photo donations, in order to accept the donation.
