Morales beats Bratten in runoff
A supporter holds up a sign for Ricky Morales on election day.
Ricky Morales goes on to the November general election as the Republican nominee for Wilson County Pct. 3 commissioner, following a win against Larry Bratten in the July 31 Primary Election runoff.
According to the unofficial totals from the Wilson County Clerk’s Office, Morales -- who has held the office since February 2011 after being appointed to succeed the late Bobby Lynn -- received a total of 626 votes. Bratten received 540 votes in what was the only local race for the county’s voters.
In statewide races, results in the county mirrored those all over Texas, according to results from the Secretary of State’s Office. Perhaps the most-watched race, the Republican U.S. Senate race, ended with former Solicitor General Ted Cruz pulling off an election-night upset against Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. Cruz received a total of 631,316 votes, of which 1,602 were cast in Wilson County. Dewhurst garnered 480,165 votes, of which 959 were cast in Wilson County.
Cruz will run against Democrat Paul Sadler in the Nov. 6 general election. Sadler received 81 votes in Wilson County and 148,805 votes statewide, while Yarbrough received 57 votes in Wilson County, 87,090 statewide.
The winner of the general election will fill the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who chose not to seek re-election.
