The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office, which includes Frio, La Salle, Atascosa, Karnes and Wilson Counties, is accepting resumes for an Assistant District Attorney position. The selected candidate will manage a specialized caseload with a focus on criminal enterprise, human trafficking/human smuggling and other cases as needed. Responsibilities of the position include working closely with Federal, State and Local law enforcement agencies, felony intake, preparation of cases for grand jury, negotiating pleas, and representation of the State of Texas in pretrial proceedings, as well as in criminal bench trials and jury trials in District Court. All applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law by the State of Texas and have a minimum of five (5) years prosecutorial experience with felony cases and extensive trial experience. Salary commensurate with experience. Resumes will be accepted through the close of business October 19, 2015. ON-CALL CRISIS POOL WORKERS NEEDED. Part-time positions are available for after hours “on-call” crisis workers to respond to mental health crisis for Wilson and Karnes Counties. Duties include crisis interventions, assessments, referrals to stabilization services, and referrals for involuntary treatment services according to the Texas Mental Health Laws. You must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, etc. On-call hours are from 5 p.m.-8 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays vary. If selected, you must attend required training and must be able to report to designated safe sites within 1 hour of request for assessment. Offer condolences


Frank Andrew Howell Jr., 77, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012. He was born July 6, 1935, in San Antonio, the son of Jewell Covey and Frank Andrew Howell Sr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy Howell; his daughter, Tina Meyer; his brother, Charles Howell; his grandson, Stephen Kuczynski Jr.; and his granddaughters, Zoe and Ansley Couch.

Frank is survived by his children, Frank Andrew Howell III, Stephany Howell, Melody Justice, Audie Howell and wife Reesie, Donna Howell, Cindy Couch and husband Harry, Lisa Moore and husband Scott, and Matthew Howell and wife Amy; and his grandchildren, Heather, Savannah, Robert, Terry and wife Brooke, Audie, Raelyn and husband Alex, Courtney and fiancé Goeff, A.J., Kelsey, Paige, Peggy, Logan, Amanda, Andrew, Ryan, Kayla, Justin and wife Kristin, Trey, Cody, Jacob, Elaina, Abigail, Erin and husband Eli, and Victoria. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Miranda, Evan, Nevaeh, Roland, Jaxon, Samantha, Nathan, Cole, Austin, Aubrey, Ava, Shelby, Lexi, Carson, Landon, Dedric, Ally, and Kynleigh; other family members, Margaret and John Rodriguez, Regina Howell, Bobby Howell, Jessica Howell, and John and Joyce Howell; caregivers Lupe, Doug, and Jeff; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral service was held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Billy Moore officiating.

Interment followed in the Concrete Cemetery near La Vernia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1354 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, N.Y. 10018; or the Battered Women’s Shelter, 512 W. Elmira St., San Antonio, TX 78212.
