1927-2012

Our beloved Sandy McPherson Anderson (also known as “Gampie” by his family) went to our Lord peacefully on Monday, July 30, 2012, at the age of 84. He was born in Austin, Texas, on Aug. 17, 1927.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific aboard ship. He had many adventures in his life, including being a flight instructor for the Army Air Corps, flying DC-3s for American Airlines, operating his own airline called Wild Goose Airlines, operating his own private charter flights in San Antonio, and owning his own Glastron boat business. He did it all, but his primary passion throughout his life and up until his death was flying airplanes. From flying his Cessna to rebuilding his Ercoupe-415, all he ever wanted to do was fly in the sky. He had the pleasure of flying many wonderful people, including the Rat Pack.

Sandy was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend to many. He lived his life with integrity and touched many lives with his incredible life stories on the porch of his Anderson farmhouse, said his family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Anderson; and his grandson, Scott Jason Anderson.

Sandy is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Anderson; his six children, Dusty Anderson, Travis Anderson, Tracy Anderson, Chris Anderson, Rebecca Anderson Boyd, and David Anderson; and his 11 grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Saturday, August 4, at 10:30 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Nixon with the Rev. George Bradley officiating.

Interment followed in the Union Valley Cemetery near Nixon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or God’s Storehouse (c/o First United Methodist Church, Nixon), 410 North Franklin Ave., Nixon, TX 78140.
