In loving memory, Roberta “Birdie” Ann Shafenberg Huelsman, 65, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012, to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Roberta was born Feb. 3, 1947, to Clinton and Louise (Markgraf) Shafenberg in San Antonio.

Birdie was a beautician for 30 years and owned her own business, Birdie’s Beauty Boutique, in Austin, and later opened up Birdie’s Pet Salon in La Vernia. Birdie was always creating and making something, especially her beautiful flower beds. She held family and friends close to her heart and she just loved her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her dearly loved husband, Tom Huelsman (Sept. 13, 2008); and her parents.

Birdie is survived by her children, Bridget Lovato and husband Michael, Tommy Huelsman, Paul Huelsman, and Amy Knox and husband Jay; grandchildren Naomi, Hannah, and Esther Lovato, and Jayme and Jayson Knox; sisters Dora Worley and husband Don and Joyce Strey; and uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

A funeral service will be held in the Concrete Cemetery near La Vernia on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Anne Kolmeier officiating. Roberta Ann and her late husband, Thomas Louis Huelsman, will be laid to rest in a dual ceremony.
