FLORESVILLE -- In addition to the proposed resignation and replacement of Floresville City Councilman Johnnie R. Gomez, the city council here is set to discuss some items Aug. 9 that could reshape the city for years to come.

According to the meeting’s official agenda, which can be found at bit.ly/P5K9fH, items set for consideration and action include proposal of the 2012-13 property tax rate. The council also will set the dates of public hearings upon which citizens can weigh in on the proposed budget and tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year.

The council also will consider and act upon several items that records indicate have never been mentioned at previous council meetings. In addition to action related to a revised pay-as-you-go fee schedule for various permit and engineering fees, the council will consider and act after the first reading of the captions of these three ordinances -- for which links to complete draft copies can be found below:

•A proposed ordinance on eight-liner gambling machines

•A proposed ordinance for prohibited synthetic drugs

•A proposed ordinance for the franchise fee for the solid waste contract.

The meeting, which will be held in the council chambers of City Hall at 1120 D St. in Floresville, begins at 7 p.m.
