SEGUIN -- The new aviation program at Texas Lutheran University (TLU) recently received a major boost from alumnus Harold T. Johnson. The $500,000 donation establishes an endowed professorship in aviation and pre-engineering. The funds will assist the university in attracting and retaining highly qualified faculty to teach academic courses supporting the newly established aeronautical science and aviation management programs.

“There is a growing need for highly skilled college graduates in the field of aviation and we think TLU can help fill that need,” said Dr. Stuart Dorsey, TLU president.

A retired aeronautical engineer, Johnson received his associate degree from Texas Lutheran and his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. The El Campo native is a retired pilot and has enjoyed traveling the world. The former TLU development board member first began the endowed scholarship in 1998 to provide financial assistance for students.

For more information, visit the university’s website at www.tlu.edu.
