On Tuesday, July 31, the people of not only the great state of Texas, but of the entire United States, scored an impressive victory as Tea Party darling Ted Cruz trounced David Dewhurst in the runoff for the Senate seat vacated by retiring Kay Bailey Hutchison.

In an email thanking supporters of his campaign, the Republican candidate for Senate called the win “a tremendous victory for the grass roots. A tremendous testament to Republican women, the Tea Party, and all the grass roots.”

Cruz demolished Dewhurst at the polls, winning by an impressive 13 percent. Moreover, Dewhurst outspent Cruz by a three-to-one margin, depleting a large amount from his personal fortune.

Dewhurst, who currently serves as our lieutenant governor, was a heavy favorite early on, but Cruz had the support of the Tea Party and major national organizations such as FreedomWorks. It was through my association with the Tea Party Express and FreedomWorks that first brought my attention to then-little-known Cruz. At the beginning of the campaign for the Republican candidacy, of one thing I was certain, I would not be voting for David Dewhurst. Although his name was familiar, I had seen his shuffle-the-money routine and wanted nothing of it. As a contributor to both FreedomWorks and the Tea Party Express, my fellow Tea Partiers began sending me information on Cruz’s dedication to conservatism, and in him, I saw a candidate who has the charisma, resolve, and values to take my voice to the Senate. I was equally excited for the elections of Rand Paul and Marco Rubio in previous years, but Cruz would be my voice, from my state.

I began putting up yard signs and hanging door hangers all throughout South Texas. I would go campaign for Ted Cruz throughout the Corpus Christi and Alice areas because I knew that this man could and would be the strong leader we needed in the United States Senate. I believe in Ted Cruz and I know that he will do just that. Texas has, in recent years, been a red state, so the winner of the Republican Primary would most likely be the next senator. Dewhurst knew this and used every trick in the book to try and fling mud at Cruz. But what Dewhurst didn’t count on was the unwavering support from Tea Party members nationwide. Dewhurst’s campaign even tried to lie right before the runoff and trick Tea Party members into voting for him by saying he had Tea Party support. To this, leaders from Tea Party groups statewide signed a letter to David Dewhurst sharply rebuking the false assertions made by his campaign. A copy of that letter can be found at

The bottom line is this: to all those liberals who believed the Tea Party was dead and fading. This is our way of showing you we are stronger than ever. Unlike your “Occupy” members who do not have a direction, purpose, or, well, basic understanding of hygiene and government, we pick and choose our battles well. Tea Party members have a purpose and direction. For being a dying party, we sure have gained a great deal of momentum. Currently, we have 61 of the 435 representatives in the House and, if Cruz wins, we will hold one-fifth of the Senate.

Think about that, one-fifth of the Senate in just over two years. Cruz will be the fifth senator to join the caucus, if he wins in November. In addition to the five senators who will be members of the caucus, there are three more senators who are non-members, but Tea Party supporters. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, and Marco Rubio of Florida; that is eight senators and it may grow even larger after the general election if Richard Mourdock of Indiana can beat out Democrat Joe Donnelly. So, to my fellow Tea Party members, now is the time to smile, take a deep breath, have a drink, and get ready for November. Congratulations on the success and on to November. God bless you and God bless the United States of America.

Publius....sounds like a good plan...I could only add a suggestion to cut welfare before you crack down on the workers harvesting the crops. Let the prior persons on welfare get a little hungry and then the myth that Americans ... More ›

The ideal plan would be to just end all welfare and entitlement tomorrow. Think that would work out? First you have to sell the idea that we need to start cutting these programs. A better job of explaining why it must be done. ... More ›

In the current venacular Grouch I would have to say your ideas "suck". So I guess in question of my voting for you the true answer would be "not in this lifetime".

I think that in a nutshell is what the Tea Party is all about. Are you against that goal, Grouch?

Curing over 70 years of mistakes is not easy and its not simple. It is complicated and will be painful, which is why the mensa squad in Washington refuses to address the problem. The goal must be to rein in the entitlements, ... More ›

Why Grouch, if all you worry about is fresh bodies to fuel the ponzi fire why not just grant citizenship to all the illegal aliens in the Country and force them to pay into SS. See that way you solve two problems. How about just ... More ›

To all of the self declared Patriots of the Tea Party. This sounds like a violation of the Stolen Valor Act.
