By George Rodriguez

Beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 15, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will provide “Deferred Action” to any illegal alien they classify as “a low priority for immigration enforcement”, and that alien will be subject to DHS discretion and not be deported.

“Deferred Action” provides temporary relief to the illegal alien from enforcement which could be revoked at any time. The Obama Administration claims Deferred Action is not amnesty or immunity. However, if the federal government chooses not to act against an illegal alien now, it is highly unlikely they will act against them later. Thus, amnesty by any other name is still amnesty. DHS should enforce all immigration laws equitably and immediately and not defer enforcement action on anyone.

The facts are these. First, it is apparent Obama has chosen to be selective in the enforcement of the law, and shows his continuing lack of respect toward the Constitution and the rule of law. He has sacrificed the rule of law, and complicated an already convoluted, complex, and confusing immigration system for the sake of his political future.

Also, Obama claims the “Deferred Action” does not provide lawful immigration status or a path to a green card or citizenship for those persons eligible. He claims it does not extend to any family members of the person granted deferred action. However, once the door is opened and once the camel has its nose inside the tent, how can this policy be reversed?

A secondary issue is how the Spanish language media is reporting this story. Instead of explaining, or allowing opponents to explain their position, the Spanish language is reporting “sob stories”. They ignore the fact that a law was broken, and that Obama is bending laws for political gain. The Spanish language media in the U.S. should be ashamed of being accomplices in undermining the laws of the United States for the sake of their market share.

The South Texas Political Alliance opposes the implementation of “Deferred Action”, and considers it more political theater by an Administration that lacks principles, and liberal media bias by the Spanish language media.
