William R. Miller Jr., a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at 2:19 a.m. in the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville, at the age of 88 years, 9 months, and 22 days. William was born Oct. 15, 1923, in Weatherford, the son of Iva Mae Mitchell and William R. Miller Sr.

After graduating from Weatherford High School, William was a welder for many years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. William married Nadine Katie Penshorn on June 7, 1947, in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in San Antonio. He was a member of the American Legion and the First Baptist Church in Floresville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Claudine Glasscock.

William is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nadine Katie Penshorn Miller of Floresville; his daughter, Pam Cooke of Floresville; his son, William R. “Billy” Miller III and wife D’Ann of Ingleside; his grandchildren, Colby Cooke, Travis Miller, Katie Elrod, and Kari Cooke; his great-grandchildren, Rylee Miller, Julie Cooke, Wyatt Miller, and Case and Blaise Cooke; his brother, John Miller Sr. and wife Dee Dee of Marble Falls; his sister, Pauline Pearce of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 5 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville. A graveside funeral service was held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the San Fernando Cemetery No. 3 in San Antonio, officiated by Brother Mike Clements.

Interment with military honors followed in the cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Colby Cooke, Travis Miller, Don Breithaupt, Dennis Howard, Willie Sultenfuss, and Ryan Elrod.

Did not know Mr. Miller very well, but his son Billy (a classmate of mine) was a really good kid and usually the acorn doesn't fall from the Big Oak, so I'm really really sure from knowing Billy that his Dad was a fine gentleman. ... More ›
