Pleasanton Young Farmers’ Cowboy of the Year Rodeo & Festival will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 17-18, at the Atascosa County Showbarn Arena located between Pleasanton and Jourdanton on S.H. 97.

Friday’s festivities include a barbecue cook-off for three meat entries and beans.

The activities continue with the announcement of the “Cowboy of the Year” and South Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame honorees at 7:30 p.m.

A rodeo will be held at 8 p.m. Events include a ranch bronc riding, calf roping, breakaway, barrel racing, team roping, steer wresting, and bull riding.

Immediately following the rodeo, dance to the music of the “Rocky King Band,” which will perform traditional and Western swing.

Saturday afternoon’s events include a washer tournament and chicken roping.

Entertainment will be provided by the “Bracken Hale Band” at 4 p.m. According to his website, Hale is the “bandleader and frontman of one of the hippest original dance bands” who delivers “pure Fender twang and well-crafted honky-tonk music.”

A second rodeo will be held at 8 p.m., followed by the music of Camille Sanders and traditional country music by Rodney Hayden. Autographed CDs of Sanders will be given to children, courtesy of Manning Safety.

Vendors are welcome.
