Controversy already has attached itself to the upcoming Floresville municipal election, as a candidate has been told by City Secretary Margaret Aranda -- who also serves as the city's election judge -- that he is ineligible to run.

Floresville businessman Jim Miller, who filed Aug. 13 to run for city council Place 1, was told after the filing deadline had passed that he is prevented from seeking elected office in Floresville because of his voter registration status. Miller registered to vote in the city earlier this year.

"It's disappointing," Miller said. "I believe that the truth and the law will prevail."

Miller further stated that the Texas Supreme Court has ruled on a number of occasions that voter registration is not conclusive evidence of eligibility.

true resident, when I referred to dumb Floresville voters I didn't specifically have you in mind. Until you made your most recent post I didn't. It takes a really low IQ to blame the victim for the crime.

True Resident; you still don't get it. If legal fees have to be paid, you can thank the city secretary for that. Jim was defending himself against the city. The city secretary started this whole thing and you need to get ... More ›

True resident, how do u blame this on Mr Miller? If the city secretary didn't listen to her boyfriend and try to get Jim off the ballot, this never would have happened. Thank your curren mayor and his puppets castillo and Gomez.

Jim, what a wonderful plan you have for the future of the city. I can almost guarantee you, that not one of the council has even thought of any of these issues that face this city of ours. I wish you well my friend, I wish you well.

Ralph, They are not racist. The Mayor and all but two City Councilmen are equally dismissive, sometimes bordering on rudeness to anyone who has the audacity not to agree with or question their decisions. Jim has brought ... More ›

Mr. Miller, so have you been cleared to run? Did the mayor give his girlfriend city secretary permission to contact you based on the results of Mr. Gibbs' investigation? Or is he still looking for ways to keep you off the ... More ›
