Eagle Ford: County job losses jump in July
Workforce Solutions Alamo has released information indicating that the Wilson County unemployment rate increased to 6.9 percent in July, up from 6.8 percent reported in June.
Wilson County’s unemployment rate registered lower than the overall jobless rate of 7.2 percent for the 12-county Workforce Solutions Alamo area, which includes Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson counties. Gillespie County registered the lowest unemployment rate in July among the counties at 4.8 percent and Karnes County registered the highest rate at 8.4 percent.
The San Antonio metro area unemployment rate held at 7.3 percent in July, the same rate reported for June. Total non-agricultural employment in the San Antonio-New Braunfels MSA decreased by 7,500 jobs to 865,700, with the largest losses (7,200 jobs) occurring in local government, a seasonal trend for this time of year. Meanwhile, annual growth remained positive with 11,100 more jobs in the metro region (up 1.3 percent) since July 2011.
Comparing the Work-force Solutions Alamo metro area to the state and nation, the Texas unadjusted (actual) unemployment rate decreased to 7.5 percent in July, down from 7.6 percent in June. The nation’s unadjusted (actual) unemployment rate increased to 8.6 percent in July, up from 8.4 percent reported in June.
