The Wilson County Commissioners Court is headed to alternate dispute resolution with the Floresville Economic Development Corp. (FEDC), following a unanimous vote by the commissioners at their Aug. 27 meeting.

County Attorney Russell Wilson recommended the commissioners either take this step or pursue litigation against the FEDC for ongoing non-compliance issues at the El Rancho Grande Industrial Park on F.M. 537. The park has been a bone of contention for the Wilson County Development Review Committee, which required that the corporation perform tasks at the park including the completion of a drainage study, the installation of roads, and the installation of a turning lane on F.M. 537.

Wilson said despite this, the corporation continues to sell property at the park, and allow construction of buildings there. On May 8, FEDC Executive Director Jesse Perez told the committee that drainage studies -- which are necessary to determine whether the proposed development at the park will have any negative impact to those downstream -- would be completed in 30 days. The county has received no correspondence that would indicate that the studies have been performed.

“They haven’t been fulfilling their promises,” said Wilson County Pct. 2 Commissioner Paul Pfeil.

Also during the meeting, the commissioners:

•Presented plaques to Dennis Hale of the Texas AgriLife Extension Office and former Wilson County Jail cook Grace Roth upon their retirements.

•Met in closed session with Howard Berger and Library Director Nicki Stohr regarding property negotiations related to the possible expansion of the Sam Fore Jr. Wilson County Public Library. No action was taken and no further information was made public as of press time Aug. 27.

•Witnessed as tokens of recognition were presented to Wilson County Sheriff Joe D. Tackitt Jr. and Pct. 1 Commissioner Albert Gamez Jr. by Fire Chief Ed Schriber and Emergency Medical Services Coordinator Shirley Schriber of the Eagle Creek Volunteer Emergency Services. The Schribers are retiring after more than 20 years of service Aug. 31.

•Set Oct. 8 as the date of a public hearing related to a takings impact assessment of regulating leased housing parks -- cabins -- as subdivisions.

Tackitt Jr., County Treasurer Jan Hartl, Coordinator Edwin Baker of the Wilson County Health and Public Safety Office, Coordinator LeAnn Hosek of the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency, Library Director Nicki Stohr of the Sam Fore Jr. Wilson County Public Library, Assistant County Auditor Kristin Labus, and Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Jim Burdette.

But Turbo, Floresville has the Non-Event Center and will have the Sports Complex, if the FEDC can stay out of jail long enough, and tons of debt to go with the corrupt city council. What more could a major job creator ask for.

Not to worry, Dots. Once everybody sees the wonderful new sports complex, they will forget all about turning lanes, safety, and water issues.

This is yet another thumb of the nose from the City/FEDC to the County. They have absolutely no intention of coming into compliance. And I bet you dollars to donuts that whatever is decided at a mediation will eventually have ... More ›

How could we expect the FEDC to attend to their proper business when they are spending so much time and money funding vanity projects for City officials?
