Ex Tiger......Since I have led a productive and fulfilling
life, I can't say that I have been affected to a point
where I had to choose between ignoring a law or feeding
my family. Just because the more affluent in this
country can afford the effect of oppressive laws
doesn't mean that the less successful can. Every dollar
paid to the state or insurance companies is a dollar
out of the household budget. I spent a good part of my
life without some of the current mandates and the sky
did not fall. By the way, I am a very happy contented
person who just loves to provoke hypocrites and
elite twits.
You are right about taxes and laws being around
for a long time but why does Texas need so many new
laws every two years. Does it make your life better ?

I guess you've never heard of the Community Reinvestment Act. Passed in 1977 by a Democrat Congress to stop banks from redlining blighted urban areas and then later revised and expanded several times to force banks to make sub-prime loans, this law ultimately caused the Great Recession of 2008. As a direct result of this legislation, or series of laws and regulations, millions have now lost their jobs and cannot just go to work and collect a paycheck.
Now, before all you Obama Kool-Aid drinkers start up with the Blame Bush syndrome, and the Greedy Wall Street 1 percenters class warfare argument, just relax and try to understand that all those problems with AIG, Fanny and Freddy, et al, where caused by the mortgage industry attempting to get rid of those bad loans they were forced by the government to make.
And, I guess you’ve never heard of all those labor laws that the government uses to force employers to bow down and submit to the unions who eventually bankrupt companies like General Motors. All those folks who lost their jobs because of the greedy unions can’t go to work and collect a paycheck.
If you own a business, you are definitely oppressed by this government in every respect. This government has become exactly what the Founding Fathers warned against.

I gather from your blog that you feel the man is keeping you down. Holding you back from achieving your goals and ambitions. Yes there are laws and fines that may be ridiculous, but never have I felt that I am being oppressed. Many people feel that laws right here in this country keep them from living a free and comfortable life. That's a pile of horse . The only people that have a legitimate excuse are those that are disabled. No law has ever kept me from going to work every day and collecting a paycheck. No law has ever restricted how and where I spent my money. If I break the law then there are consequences to pay. Laws and taxes have been around since the beginning of time and are not going away. Adapt or die.

Ex Tiger....I have also traveled the world and also
have the advantage living through periods of time that
you personally know nothing about. There are many degrees
of oppression, so to assign the worst meaning of the word
speaks volumes about your reasoning faculties. If my father had driven
his family to town for the monthly shopping trip observing
1950 laws but subjected to 2012 laws, the fines would
have been very expensive and probably resulted in the
his truck being seized. Many persons don't realize that
some of our current laws have a direct effect on an
individual being able to work in our society and feed

at the same time during my early years, the people

slow imposition of punitive laws. When you sacrifice
liberty for safety, you have neither. The last sentence

of taxes (some call them fees and fines). No matter how

That depends on who you refer to as "law enforcement". The average cop on the beat is doing his best to just keep up with what the lastest laws are and how to enforce them. But, the Chiefs and Sheriffs and union bosses, DAs and judges all play a big role in what laws get written and which ones get enforced.
In fact, law enforcement falls under the excutive branch of government and as we have seen, is very involved in the making of laws and more importantly, how and upon whom they are enforced, or, as Grouchie would say, who gets oppressed.

Muse....I had no problem with law enforcement during
the 60s or 70s. I was speaking of the anti military
kooks in that era. Without law enforcement agencies
enforcing the massive amount of senseless and stupid
laws and regulations foisted on the citizens of America
during my lifetime, then those laws would be of little
consequence. A large portion of those laws were instigated
by special interests such as the insurance companies.
My stance considering laws is that this country was
doing just fine before the government minded nannies
and special interest decided to make laws for our
own good. By the way, is this a better country than
it was before all this laws were instituted ? Do
you feel safer ? The only things that these laws
have accomplished is to create a massive law and
corrections industry and enriched the special interests.
The fact that this nation has the largest number of
citizens in prison should cause any reasonable citizen
to stop and ponder why. When unreasonable fees and
fines are levied against the citizens (especially the
poor), then American citizens cease to be free.
Law enforcement is part of that oppression.

So, all you do is attack a disabled person for tripping in the mess. I think my honorable military record and VA medical record would prove otherwise. You both have so much class and prove why the idiotic statements you make are moronic and lack any subsistence. I am so proud of you as I know the only thing you service is yourself. Finders is the most dimmed individual on this site. So, according to Finders, a police job especially working for the Sheriff’s Office is not a government job. If an officer or any individual is satisfied with a 28000 dollar a year salary then I would say that their ambition has been met or satisfied and have no ambition to advance their career or their salary.
There are different levels of ambition and standards of living. If a person chooses to support their family on a two thousand a month salary as opposed to someone that make six thousand a month that would suggest that the individual on 2000 a month salary's ambitions have been met and he or she has a lower living standard than that of an individual on a 6000 a month salary.
No that does not make an individual less or better than the other. It just means one has the ambition to pursue more.

I don't know why you all are so anti-law enforcement, but their job is equally important to that of any military person. They just fight here on homeland and not in other countries.
Be Careful just because you served in the war you want, a candy bar? So your disabled? Do you want us to cry a river for you? Should we appreciate you more than others. I know Vietnam Veterans that live in this county that would LOVE the treatment you get. There is a whole nursing home full of veterans in Floresville that would love the attention that you are bosting about.
You all preach about government jobs, since when was a police officer a government job? You think the benefits are great and they are just living the dream, why don't you ask one of them. Next time you see them, ask them how they struggle with two paychecks in the home. But then again, not everyone makes what they should. Everyone thinks they are worth more than what they get paid. Be Careful you like to preach about how your a veteran. How much of what you get do you actually deserve? You think everything, well like you they think the same way. They put their lives on the line everyday. We have more domestic violence in this county than other counties our size. We have more drugs in our county too. Burglaries are all over this county. It's sad when neighborhoods have to become watchers because the law enforcement cannot patrol as often because of the square footage they cover. Be careful you will be concerned if any of those happen to you or a family member. You would want their undivided attention to your problem, and then when you don't get it you sound like one of those that will call and complain because you didn't get what you want.
Yes pay them what they are worth. At least $40,000 plus benefits. Their job is hardwork when dealing with stupid people all day. They do not just sit in a truck and give tickets. Speak to them about what they do and don't do. Your interpretation of them is dead wrong.
PG - isn't that want someone is suppose to do, better themselves and their families. It would be idiotic to not want to better yourself. Maybe you are comfortable with where you are at, but there are people in this world that will strive to better themselves.

Finders, who said they were not needed. We need ranch hands to work the land and cattle, but we pay them based on supply and demand. Damn harder than a sheriff's job.
The point is pay should be based on what the job is worth; not some idealistic this job or that job is underpaid. The only people who can make more than they are worth are government employees because they don't provide billable services.
HEB pays based on what it can afford to make a profit. Government workers are paid on we need "government workers" and they are not making enough, but no one can define enough especially compared to the private sector.
If they want to go on strike go ahead. We can hire other people to do the job. No one is walking off the job for pay for the work they do. Put the want ad in the paper and see how long it takes to fill. They are making good money for service rendered.
As for the services they provide and described by you: Oh, Yes, I am so concerned about golf carts in the street. Oh, Yes, I am so concerned about dog bites, the paper reports 100's of bites a day.
Be realistic. I do love the over the top domestic abuse rant. What is the cop going to do, move in with them? You touched my heart strings and I threw out all logic and like a lover in love with a harlot I am willing to give her my wallet and starve myself. Everyone in the entire county could be police and that would not stop crime.
Whatever you spend on police you can't spend elsewhere. Why don't you outlaw cars because people get killed in or by them every day.
Everything in life has a value. We trade lives for the use of cars. We trade lives for the food we eat. We trade lives for the fuel we use. Your simple minded argument of one item does not cover the complex world of economics or the value of work or life.
Pay what they are worth and only have enough of them to tackle major crimes and give me a metric to determine performance and with the extra time spend it on minor crimes like mental midgets who ride golf carts in the road and those who complain about it.

I have responded to a 911 call in the wee hours of the morning and called for law enforcement because the scene was not safe. The dispatcher responded that no deputies would be available for 30 minutes. This has happened several times. So yes, I feel 5 more deputies are a good idea. Don't forget that the Sheriff's office runs 24 hours. That requires manpower for 2 or 3 shifts.
The deputies have to testify in court and that means they are not available to patrol at all times. They also, like to take vacations and sometimes get sick.
Personally, I don't think 5 are enough. But maybe that is all this county can afford.
Also, I don't think the members of the commissioner's court woke up one morning and they all decided increasing the county budget over $3.3 million dollars would be a fun thing to do. Maybe they need a better way of communicating with the citizens of this county. But I don't think they decided to put this plan forward without considering the ramifications.

Rambler you said "good" require at least a 2 yr college degree. There is no college that I am aware of in Wilson County. It is a law enforcement course like a real estate license. Even if you have 2 -year degree the median salary is only $35,100. So, 50% of the people with a two years of college make $35k or less. Again, why are policeman so special. Is crime out of control? Or do we need to give more speeding tickets?
Second have you seen the police in this area. A good number of them have a hard time getting there butt out of the car. Bellies get in the way. So, I am not sure of the physical, looking to see if they are breathing? So, they need guns so they don't have to run.

Most good law enforcement agencies around the country require at least a 2 yr college degree. You must pass a written test, physical agility, at least one oral board, a medical, a background investigation and a polygraph. Then, you must complete an academy lasting 3-6 months and then you must pass the field training program and a 1 or 2 yr probation period during which time you can be fired for almost anything.
Who would go through all that for a job that starts you out at $14 per hour in today's economy?

reveals a living beyond your means mentality. For example,
the $250.00 car payment would indicate that the person
preferred not to walk until he could pay cash for cheap
reliable means of transportation. I grew up in a small
town in Oklahoma and my family never owned a car or
had air conditioning.
By the way, over 70 percent of the US population had
no air conditioning in 1970. From 1971 till 1977, I lived in
Rockport, Texas without air conditioning. You mentioned
a mortgage of $800.00 indicating home ownership. Renting would be a more sensible choice.
Let's see if we can cut some expenses.
Rent with bills paid....200.00 saved.
Liability only..........40.00 saved
No car payment..........250.00 saved
More judicious use of car...20.00 savings on gas
$28,000.00 is close to the median wage in Floresville, so it's probably more than 45% of
the people are making. Need, not greed is the secret.
I consider any wage or salary that enables me to provide
shelter and food to be good. Careful management of
resources enables you to live better than careless
persons with greater wealth.

There are many things to consider when we determine what a good salary is.
Lets break it down per say: Give or take a couple of hundred.
Mortgage in Floresville 800.00
Electric bill: 100.00 average considering hot summers.
water,trash and sewer. 50.00
Gas utility: 50.00 average considering winter months:
250.00 car payment.
car insurance 80.00 on average one vehicle:
groceries 400. per month
lets say this person works in and lives in floresville.
Gas for vehicle. 100 per month
so far this come out to 1830.00
I have not included clothing, Federal taxes or health insurance. Keep in mind I left out dependents. Im sure that these items would exceed the gross income of 28000 a year. I dont think that you can even save money in your 401k or regular savings on this salary.
According to government data the median income for Floresville is $30,093.

Greg instead of some emotional illogical statements like “Do you want law enforcement? Do you want paved roads? Do you expect to get it for free? I couldn't afford the cut in pay to do any county job in Wilson County,” how about you justify why they deserve a higher salary. Your argument is I don’t want law enforcement or roads? REALLY?
I am not asking for free law enforcement, I am asking for salaries to be in line with job requirements. I can’t afford to work at McDonald’s either so we should pay them more money? In any business the largest cost is people costs. Now, you are increasing people cost which means less roads and less law enforcement so you are spouting the opposite of what you are asking for. Less people costs means more roads so which is it you want? Higher salaries or more services?
Wilson County is in the catbird’s seat because of the Oil boom. However, it won’t last forever. The numerous man camps and trailer trash parks will come to end. Then, all the numerous overpaid government positions will crush the community. So, why don’t we set salaries on what is fair (fair = market value of work) and number of employees based on some logical reason. Has crime risen? What is driving these hirings? I just wish government and the big government supports could use logic in determining salaries and number of employees. Government will spend every dime you give them and ask for more with the statement but we can …. Do Better or the poor pitiful government slugs can’t feed their family… All these promises with no metric to judge “better” by. Most hiring in local government has more to do with who you know than what you know. And the move government folks you have the more likely they will go to the polls and keep the downward spiral going.

Greg, the cost of living has gone up for everyone, but that doesn’t mean the tax rate should go up. The County continues to bring in more and more money and spending it unwisely. No one is complaining about paying taxes, we are complaining why the amount of money collected by the County can longer to afford the services it has in the past. No one in the private sector is getting pay raises and there is over 7% unemployment. Yet, you want to pay for government employees whose salaries are out of line for what they do. We want pay to match supply and demand. Quit your job tomorrow and let’s see how long it takes to fill a government job. Again, the average salary in Wilson County is $26,853 so the average citizen makes less than your bleeding heart, non-factual reason for government salaries.
I don’t care if $28,000 ($13.41/hr) a year is a good salary. There are a lot of people who would like to make this salary especially considering the government benefits. I hope most of them can get off work to vote against these government spending hogs.
Why do you people keep making an argument about what a “good salary” is. My argument is you should get paid what your service is worth. Again, what does a roofer make? Is it a “good salary?” Don’t know but if people can’t afford new roofs they won’t get there roofs re-done… Until someone comes along with a cheaper price by hiring cheaper labor. In the private sector, you can’t pay McDonald’s employees $28,000/year because nobody wants to pay $15 for a hamburger.
How can you folks argue sitting in a car in A/C getting out only to give speeding tickets, with a high school education justifies $45k ($21.61) plus outstanding benefits. Now, with that said, I do believe the Ladies and Gentleman of the Wilson County Sheriff’s office provide a great service. I just want the service to be in line with what we can afford. I don’t eat at Ruth Chris house because I can’t affort it. The food they provide is not worth the extra cost. In terms of Wilson County, the service they are providing will not be improved with increased costs just more money to government employees.
So, I work in the private sector and I should go in and tell my boss I am not making a decent wage and I need a pay raise because it is “the Right” thing to do. He would tell me, “We appreciated your service the last few years but our company cannot pay those types of wages so you must either work at these rates or go elsewhere.” SO, if the wages are so bad in Wilson County Government, then QUIT and see if you can find a better easier paying job.

I agree that the salaries are low, even for this area. I would like to see them getting much more. They deserve it. But here's the rub. When taken together with our total tax burden, most of which is school taxes, there just isn't enough blood left in the turnip to give them more money and benefits.
Who's to blame for this? You can blame the voters who keep throwing more and more money into the schools as if that will somehow fix the broken education system, or just because it's the right thing to do, "for the children". In fact, judging by the tax rates, voters apparently believe that public education is 3 times more important than law enforcement, roads and all the other services that the county tax rate provides. That is why your cops are so grossly underpaid.
The ISD tax bill and county tax bill may arrive in separate envelopes, and our elected officials my use that to point fingers and blame the other taxing entities, but it all comes out of the same dwindling bank account. It's all lumped into one big ball of hard to swallow, ever increasing tax burden that we must face every year, as dependable and predictable as flies on a cowpie and politicians voting to give themselves raises.

OK, the Sheriff says he needs 5 new deputies. Maybe he does. Maybe the calls for service and response time requires more deputies. I suspect he does need them, considering the population growth and the transient population and traffic due to the oil boom. Hopefully this has all been calculated out so that the increased population has increased the tax base sufficiently to cover the increased budget. It should have.
But if these guys come at us again for higher taxes to pay for it, without a shred of public debate or stats to justify it or calculation to include future debt, as in PENSIONS..... then all the bad-mouthing and harrassing blogging will also be justified and warranted.
The county is growing and all indications are that the boom will last for a decade or longer. But, don't forget that the go-go years of the 90s also brought a false sense of prosperity to many failed cities today that all too quickly turned into bankruptcy when the chickens came home to roost.
I would really like to believe that these new positions and raises have all been decided on future calculations of the true total cost to tax payer. But, something tells me they are were not. Something tells me that they are based on the hope that boom lasts forever and, if not, well, we'll just deal with that when the time comes.

Something else to say 2 So, a recognized field of mathematics, Statistics, is not factual. Please provide me information on where the facts I used where not factual. I stated average salaries and where people work. While I realize statistics can be used in a wide variety of ways including being deceptive. However, the data I was used was collected in a manner no different than the US Census Bureau. I suppose you don’t believe in US Census Bureau statistics either. Their data is used to determine what areas get what. So, as usual your argument is illogical. I am starting to believe “something else to say” means saying things that are not grounded in logic and science.
“None of the private sector jobs directly affect how our city operates.” Really? So, if HEB left, the sewer plant would operate the same way. The road wear and tear would not change. The amount of money collected by the city in taxes would not be affected and they would have enough payroll to pay all the police. Are you smoking something? A successful region cannot exist without a private sector. You must have really bought into Obama and the socialist agenda. Where do you think the City of Floresville gets its money to operate? The private sector drives the need for sewer, garbage, police, EMS, fire services not government. I know you hate statistics but how would a city of 100% government employees pay for itself?
Those who “rush to danger when everyone else is running away should be compensated accordingly.” Who says they are not compensated according. These policemen sit in A/C and give speeding tickets all day and investigate petty crime. What danger are they rushing into? Why are they rushing? Let’s look at the The 10 Most Dangerous Jobs in America. Farmers and ranchers have a at work death rate twice that of policeman. Fishermen, loggers, aircraft pilots, roofers, mining machine operators, garbage collectors, truck drivers, and industrial machine operators have greater death rates than police officers. Do you know how much a roofer makes and how hard that job is? Again, when people stop lining up for government jobs, they are making enough.
Your argument “Do they make enough, by no means no, but does anyone?” Really? So, nobody’s job is worth more than anyone’s and we cannot make choices on salary so we all should make a bazillion dollars/year. Then, how much do you think things would cost in the grocery story? Make salary based on supply and demand, if the government folks don’t want the job, there are plenty of people standing in line to fill them. Your argument lacks logic and reason.
Your statement “complain and harrass a blog under a psuedo name and not face consequences for it” shows your complete ignorance of the history of the United States. First, I don’t see you name. Second, I did not harass you. You attacked me in a blog asking me to move to Canada; told me scientific proof which uses statistics is not factual; refuse to accept the supply/demand economic theory ; said I have big shorts (I am not a Floresville Policeman) and final you are threatening consequences. Now, for the history lesson. Benjamin Franklin wrote under a pseudo name and his writings and others allowed the colonist to communicate ideas and eventually overthrow the British government.
So, far, you don’t appear to grasp basic math or have knowledge of history but you want me to believe the government employees deserve more money even though we could fill their positions in short order if they walked off the job. Are you a government employee? I bet you are:)
Lastly, I never once said I did not appreciate government employees. A good number of them do a bang up job. Good for them. I do a bang up job and I am private sector and I didn’t get a pay raise last year. We need supply and demand wages. If we can’t fill the positions, if the positions are even necessary, then raise the salary. Again, farmers and ranchers do a bang up job; is there salary or “hard” work hours more or less. We can't use feel good or emotional determinations to determine wages. At least make a statistical argument that they are underpaid. Of course, you don’t believe in mainstream theories. Oh by the way, Floresville PD used some statistics that no one saw that they presented to justify more money.

Actually statistics are not factual! They are just that statistics. Statistics: "the science that deals with the collection, classification, analysis, and interpretation of numerical data, and that, by use of mathematical theories of probability, imposes order and regularity on aggregates of more or less disparate elements." Not all statistical data is true or factual.
Private sector is where the money is, the only reason any of our areas have money right now is because of the oil, but that will disappear. Private sector jobs are more inclusive, hence private sector. We would still have a Floresville because none of the private sector jobs directly affect how our city operates. Private sector jobs also bring in millions upon millions and cannot be compared to public sector jobs, that is like comparing lettuce and oranges. Private sector jobs give their CEOs, shareholders, and other top executives raises on a 6 month or yearly basis depending on how their worker bees do. Public sector actually gives raises to the worker bees.
Government jobs are on the rise because of their benefits, for instance the state benefits are good. Federal is even better. The pay isn't bad either. NOW county and city jobs, that is different because it depends on the taxrate in the area. Just depends, SAPD makes way more than FPD or PPD. Texas DPS makes $36,000-62,000. I agree those that sit on their butts in offices all day and answer phones do not need a raise every year, but those that put their life on the line day in and out and rush to danger when everyone else is running away should be compensated accordingly. Do they make enough, by no means no, but does anyone?
Your right as an American you do have the right to complain and harrass a blog under a psuedo name and not face consequences for it. But at the same time I hope when you do need the resources of those in the public sector, particularly law enforcement, ems, fire department, you remember what you have stated about them and how useless they are to the community.
A college education does not always get you the best of anything. These jobs these officers, jailers, and dispatchers do require a certificate from an educational source. A college education will get you further in the private sector than in any public sector job. But then again how many people can afford a college education?

Something else to say 2. I appreciate your invite to leave but I would prefer government hogs like yourself leave. You don’t own this area. Just because people sit on the butt answering phone calls, I am sure they deserve a big raise while the private sector folks work there butts off. Private sector is where the “real” money comes not from the government. Without private sector folks driving to San Antonio, there wouldn’t be a Floresville. What is amazing is when a government job opens up, dozens of people apply. If government jobs are so bad and underpaid, why is there so much interest in government job openings. All these jobs that you want to pay big bucks don’t even require college education. Why don’t you and those complaining government folks leave because government employees are easy to replace. Private sectors jobs go empty all the time because you actually. Why don’t you go work in the oil fields and find out what real work is? I just can't figured out why you think these folks deserved a pay raise when there is over 8% in the country; and private sector and most federal agencies are not giving raises, but these people deserve one. Many of their spouses do work in San Antonio and make that so called sacrifice. BUT then again, why doesn't Floresville have more places that people can work for more than just minimum wage? Maybe you should ask the County EDCs and cities that question. If you choose to work in SA then that is your choice! Here are some more statistics to show the government employees are not underpaid. The average salary in Wilson County is $26,853 (2009 data). So every law enforcement worker in Wilson County and Floresville makes more than the average worker in Wilson County. So, who is paying these wages? The types of workers in Wilson County:
• Private wage or salary: 72%
• Government: 20%
• Self-employed, not incorporated: 8%
• Unpaid family work: 0%
Percentage of county residents living and working in this county: 33.1%
So, the 20% of government workers outnumber the 13.1 of workers who work in Wilson County.
I am starting to believe this blog is loaded with rich government workers (makes more than the poor folks who drive to San Antonio to make $26,583). If you don’t like your big pay then go somewhere else where it pays more. Good luck. If you get a private sector job, don’t plan on getting great health benefits or better pay or work less hours. My work’s family health insurance costs are $800/month and the insurance doesn’t kick in until I meet the $2000 deductible. How much do the FISD teacher’s pay for family health insurance? I won’t even go into retirement that the private sector workers pay for themselves.
Wilson County and Floresville city government employees want me to have sympathy? Drive 1 hour to San Antonio and get a real job and see how the real workers have to make a living scraping by and losing time. Workers who work in San Antonio don’t just get to leave work for 10 minutes to an hour to take care of business in town. You are living the life of luxury and complaining about it. PLEASE!!!

Finders....Concerning the deductible being more than
they take home.....I recall in the not so distant
past that the County Commissioners passed on raising
the deductible while the employee health care costs
were increasing. Just let the taxpayers bear the burden
alone. You also mentioned that unlike other occupations,
the county employees do not get perks such as travel
pay, free medical, housing, and so forth. How many
jobs in Wilson county enjoy those benefits ? Just
more envy of the military. Most county residents
on Medicare pay close to one hundred dollars a month
in premiums and they are still responsible for 20
percent of their health care costs. Most purchase
an supplemental insurance policy at their own expense to cover that cost. According to the article, county
taxpayers spend about $850.00 per month for each
county employee health costs. That comes to about
$10,200.00 a year that the taxpayers foot the bill
for health care for each county employee. How much
more slop do you think the taxpayers should dump
into the county employee feeding trough. One and a
half million not enough for health care ?
Concerning shift work. For the first ten years
of my career in military communications, I worked
rotating shifts and enjoyed some of the less appreciated
benefits such as uncrowded recreational sites and the
ability to attend to chores that others have to do on
the weekend.
The majority of military retirees work at a second
career after retiring. Your vision of military retirees
enjoying the leisure life is false. I made a deal
with the DOD for twenty years of my life and I
receive benefits for fulfilling that contract. If
the law enforcement personnel don't feel that their
contract is worthwhile, seek a better one elsewhere.
I suspect that you may have some personal interest
in this matter but you do not enhance the image of
a professional by whining. It sounds infantile to
scream for more milk. Remember, when you are suckling
the hind teat of the county sow, stop complaining about
the smell.

OMG Finders, does that mean they wont respond when I call them, or maybe they will pull me over more. This is a free blog and we are allowed to post our opinions. We all dont think and believe alike, that doesnt make it a crime. There are things we are against and things we are fore, and last time I checked it was a free county. One in which I did my part in protecting that freedom

Why more deputies? Really? Have you not seen the papers or heard people talking around the county. There is more crime in our area than ever before. Burglaries, theft, carjackings, sexual assaults on children, child abuse, drugs (especially in Stockdale and La Vernia), the list goes on and on. OH and don't forget the animal calls.
Jailers and dispatchers are important as well. Dispatchers are the first line of communication when someone has an emergency. Our deputies will not be making $48,000 a year--ask them. Next time you see them out and about, ask what their take home is. Ask them about their health insurance and if their families are covered by it. Their deductiable alone is more than what most take home. Their retirement, is standard through the county government that all county employees in the state of Texas have. Their retirement is a joke, they won't be able to retire like some others do, they will have to work to continue to make ends meet. Deputies, dispatcher and jailers do NOT work what other county employees work. When one of them has to call in sick, there is no phone call to make to find a fill in, there is NO fill in for them. They do not work 8-5, they are all on 12 hour shifts and rotating at that, so while everyone gets holidays and weekends they don't. They work to keep our county safe.
Why are you all so anti-law enforcement? I'm sure when you need something you are the first to call 911 or 393-2535 to report that a dog did business in your yard, or there is a cow in the road or even more your house was broken into. Or while driving you notice an out of control driver and call to have them stop that driver before they kill someone. You asked in another forum why anti-military? No one is anti-military, they get plenty of perks in the states and bells and whistles when they move out of the country. All jobs are voluntary, if you don't like it, leave. Luckily WCSO has a few committed individuals that are going to stay no matter what they make, but it is nice to make something that you can live on and support a family. Unlike other occupations that give you housing, free medical, travel expenses and so forth.
FISD could not give raises because of their promises during the bond. They stated they would not raise school taxes because they were going to raise every year to pay for the new high school, football field, athletic facilities, and elementary school. Although the teachers are getting stipends, which is still the same. Have you seen their pay scale? Teachers start at $42,000. Aides and auxilary staff start at $12,000.
One thing PG, you stated your name was James, I honestly hope you never ever ever ever need any law enforcement in your time, because it would be wasted time on you. Luckily you hide and they will never know who you truly are. Airborne they already know who you are.

Good to have more deputies! And hardworking employees like jailers, dispatchers, etc. DESERVE a raise. ELECTED OFFICIALS, however, should have the gumption to forgo that raise. They knew what the salary (and ample benefits) were when they ran! And don't worry. We are not going to loose our constables and commissioners to the oil industry.

FISD appears to be one of the few taxing groups
willing to face the fact that taxpayers are not
a open ended money source.
Regarding the increased personnel in the WCSO, the
average salary and benefits cost for each deputy will
be $48000.00. Of course those above the entry level
will cost more. So much for inadequate compensation.
Of course, there will be increased equipment and
operating costs. Sleep well Wilson County....Barney
is on patrol....:)
