On Aug. 13, the La Vernia Independent School District held its annual “New Staff Orientation.” Superintendent Tom Harvey welcomed each new staff member and discussed his “open door policy,” encouraging interaction from the new employees and offering to visit classrooms and departments when the staff members would like to share current projects and programs. Many of the new employees expressed appreciation for the involvement by a superintendent, and stated that this was the first time they had one offer to be an integral part of the learning process.

Upon completion of the welcome portion of the orientation during the morning session, all new staff were introduced to the LVISD employee policies, procedures, and guidelines, along with complete coverage of district benefits. The afternoon portion of the schedule was the interactive portion, where the new teachers participated in “LV Olympics,” including Staff Meet, Diving into C-Scope, Campus Dash, and Floor Routine with the La Vernia fight song.

The La Vernia Independent School District, along with the administration responsible for providing the training, would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all who contributed and participated in the New Staff Orientation, making it a successful venture. A special thank-you goes out to Webb Insurance, which graciously donated a delicious breakfast, H-E-B in La Vernia for a scrumptious lunch, an amazing dessert from Crystal Prophit of Prophit’Able Fundraising, and the LV T-shirts by La Vernia Sports Association for our Olympic prizes.
