The sixth annual Farm and Food Leadership Conference will be held Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 10-11, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., in the Bastrop Convention and Exhibit Center located at 1408 Chestnut St. in Bastrop.

“For too many years, agricultural and food policy in this country has been made by and for the large corporations,” explained Judith McGeary, Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance (FARFA) executive director, who is also an attorney and sustainable farmer. “One of the reasons we founded FARFA was to address the threat these policies pose to the ability of family farmers to survive. This conference is an important part of empowering people, both farmers and consumers, to become advocates for local foods and family farms.”

This unique conference focuses on the policies and regulations affecting farms and food in the state of Texas. Hear top speakers on issues such as the Farm Bill, genetically modified foods, corporate control of the food system, and much more.

Register online by visiting http://farmandranchfreedom.org/conference-2012. Cost for the event is Monday, $60, and Tuesday, $45, with a reduced registration fee available for volunteers.

For more information, contact Judith McGeary at 254-697-2661 or email info@farmandranchfreedom.org, or visit www.farmandranchfreedom.org.
