1916-2012

Evelyn Elizabeth Johnson Nall Dorman, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died peacefully in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012. She was born Oct. 27, 1916, in Floresville, the eldest child of Mary Frances Sims and Paul Pratt Johnson.

Evelyn descended from the founders of the Marcelina community in Wilson County, and was a fifth- generation Texan. She started school in Floresville, but graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio in 1934. She then attended Draughon’s Business College to become a legal secretary. Evelyn worked for a prominent law firm in downtown San Antonio for a number of years. When World War II was beginning, she worked at Camp Bowie near Abilene for the registrar of the hospital there. At that time, she met Lt. Thomas Corneal Nall of Tyler. They were married for 20 years and had Elizabeth Jane Nall and Thomas Corneal Nall Jr. while living in Bellaire on the outskirts of Houston.

In 1962 Evelyn went to work for the Veterans Hospital in Houston, where she retired in 1979. She loved working with the veterans and met John Dorman, who predeceased her. After retiring she moved to San Antonio, New Braunfels, Athens, and back to be closer to family in Houston. Evelyn was a member of Baptist churches in her lifetime. She was an avid reader, loved genealogy, and spent many hours researching her family history, tracing it back to the Colonies and Revolutionary War.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Dorman; and grandson Paul David Meyers.

Evelyn is survived by her two children, Elizabeth Jane Nall Meyers and Thomas Corneal Nall Jr.; three grandchildren, Christine Elizabeth Nall, Thomas Corneal “Trey” Nall III, and Rachel Leigh Nall; her brother, Ray Paul Johnson and wife Kathleen; her sisters, Marjorie Johnson Salter, Pat Salter Apted and husband Mick, and Paula Salter Casey; great-niece Jessica Apted; and nephews Matthew Apted and McCall and Chandler Casey.

Visitation was held Saturday, Sept. 1, at 12:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. in the Marcelina Baptist Church in Wilson County officiated by the Rev. Olen Wilson.

Interment followed in the Marcelina Cemetery in Wilson County.

Memorials may be made to the Marcelina Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 152, Floresville, TX 78114; or Marcelina Baptist Church, 578 C.R. 403, Floresville, TX 78114.
