James Albert, a resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at 8:29 a.m. in his residence in Floresville, at the age of 68 years, 9 months, and 25 days. James was born Nov. 1, 1943, in San Antonio, the son of John Albert and Eudelia Garza Magro.

After graduation from Fox Tech High School, James attended college at St. Philip’s. James worked for many years at Kelly Air Force Base. He married Gloria Herrera on Oct. 15, 1966, at Fort Eustis in Virginia. James was a member of the VFW and the Masonic Lodge. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. James was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Beth Gutierrez; and his father-in-law, Pablo Herrera Sr.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria H. Albert of Floresville; his son, John Paul Albert of Floresville; his daughter, Bettina Leath and husband Christopher of Floresville; his grandchildren, Andrew, Courtney, Christina, and Casey; his brothers, George Magro and wife Janie of Corpus Christi, Dennis Magro and wife Linda of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Louis Magro and wife Dawn of San Antonio; and his mother-in-law, Refugia Herrera of Floresville.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 5 p.m. with a prayer service following at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A graveside funeral service, with military honors, was held on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
